Frequently asked questions
What is included, and what is not?
Word, Excel and PowerPoint in their full versions, with no feature limits, plus OneNote in the 2024 edition. Outlook is not included in any year: that is the main difference with Home and Business and Professional Plus. Access and Publisher are not included either, whatever the version you choose.
Is it enough for a student?
In almost every case, yes. Dissertations are written in Word, assignments and statistics are done in Excel and presentations in PowerPoint. University email works well in a web browser, so Outlook is rarely missed. Our article on Office for students covers the alternatives.
One-time license or subscription?
A Microsoft 365 subscription is billed every year, while Home and Student is paid once and never renewed: once it is installed, there is nothing more to pay for the rest of your studies. The subscription mainly adds cloud storage and continuous feature updates, which most students can do without.
Can I install it on a Mac?
Mac users need a Mac edition: Home and Student for Mac is a separate product, listed in our Office for Mac category. The keys above activate on Windows PCs. Every key is delivered by email within a few minutes, and a key that proves defective is replaced for life.
