Is Office 2024 Compatible with Windows 10 and Older PCs?
Yes, Office 2024 is compatible with Windows 10 as well as Windows 11: it installs and activates on both, with modest requirements of a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, 4 GB of free disk space and a 1280 x 768 display. Windows 10 appears, in its LTSC 2021 and LTSC 2019 editions, in the official list for Office LTSC 2024, the version that corresponds to the Office 2024 Pro Plus sold here; on a consumer Windows 10 22H2, installation and activation work, but Microsoft doesn’t list that combination. On the other hand, no recent version of Office installs on Windows 8.1, 8 or 7. At Euroshopkey, Office 2024 Pro Plus costs 24,90€ as a lifetime license for 1 PC, Office 2021 Pro Plus 19,90€ and Office 2019 12,90€, with the key sent by email, usually within minutes.

1. Is Office 2024 compatible with Windows 10?
Yes: Office 2024 installs, activates and runs on a Windows 10 PC just as it does on Windows 11, for all six of its apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Access.
The list of systems below is the one for Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024, the exact version of the Office 2024 Pro Plus we sell. In its published system requirements, Microsoft lists Windows 11, Windows 11 LTSC 2024, Windows 10 LTSC 2021, Windows 10 LTSC 2019, Windows Server 2025 and Windows Server 2022.
- Windows 10 is indeed on that list, in its LTSC 2021 and LTSC 2019 editions. Office 2024 is not software reserved for Windows 11.
- Microsoft doesn’t list Windows 10 22H2, the consumer edition. This is not a technical block: installation and activation go through, but Microsoft doesn’t commit to that combination.
So the real question is about the operating system, not the suite: see our guide to Windows 10 end of support. One exception: on a PC with an ARM processor, Windows 11 is required.
2. What are the real system requirements of Office 2024?
Office 2024 needs a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, 4 GB of disk space and a 1280 x 768 display: almost every computer sold since 2014 goes beyond those figures. That bar is far lower than the one set by Windows 11 itself.
| Component | Minimum required | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 1.1 GHz, 2 cores | A 2012 Core i3 is enough |
| Memory | 4 GB of RAM | Standard since 2013 |
| Disk space | 4 GB free | 1% of a 500 GB drive |
| Display | 1280 x 768 | Below entry level |
| Internet | Download and activation | Once only, then offline |
So the bottleneck on an old PC is almost never Office: it’s the mechanical hard drive and the RAM left once Windows has loaded. An SSD makes more difference than a change of Office version. The procedure is in our Office 2024 installation guide.
3. The older versions of Windows that Office 2024 won’t install on
Office 2024 doesn’t install on Windows 8.1, Windows 8 or Windows 7. Dropping back a generation doesn’t help: Microsoft states that Office 2019 is supported only on Windows 11 and Windows 10, and limits Office LTSC 2021 to devices running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
On a PC still running Windows 7 or 8.1, no recent Office license can be installed. There are two ways forward:
- Move the machine to Windows 10, then install Office. Windows 10 Pro costs 9,90€, for modest hardware.
- Go straight to Windows 11 if the hardware allows it. Windows 11 Pro costs 9,90€, and the Windows 11 Pro + Office 2024 Pro Plus bundle comes to 27,90€. If not, see our page on PCs not compatible with Windows 11.
4. Office 2024 in 32-bit or 64-bit on an older PC
Office 2024 comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and the same key activates both: you choose when you download, not when you buy. Microsoft recommends the 64-bit version on devices with 4 GB of memory or more. The 4 GB minimum of Office 2024 applies to the 32-bit version as well as to the 64-bit one; only Office 2019 officially goes down to 2 GB in 32-bit.
Choose the 32-bit version in two specific cases:
- your Windows itself is 32-bit, which was common before 2013;
- you use old Excel add-ins or VBA macros written for 32-bit.
Choose 64-bit everywhere else, and always on a 4K screen: Microsoft states that it is required for 4K and higher resolutions. On a machine with 2 GB of RAM, no version of Office 2024 meets the official minimum: go for Office 2019 (12,90€).
5. Compatibility table: which version of Office for which PC
On a Windows 10 PC with 4 GB of RAM, take Office 2021; with more memory, Office 2024.
| Your PC | Office 2024 | Office 2021 | Office 2019 | Our advice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows 11, 8 GB of RAM | Yes | Yes | Yes | Office 2024 (24,90€) |
| Windows 10 22H2, 8 GB of RAM | Yes | Yes | Yes | Office 2024 (24,90€) |
| Windows 10, 4 GB, hard drive | Yes | Yes | Yes | Office 2021 (19,90€) |
| Windows 10 32-bit, 2 GB | Below the official 4 GB minimum | Below the official 4 GB minimum | Yes, in 32-bit | Office 2019 (12,90€) |
| Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 | No | No | No | Windows 10 Pro first (9,90€) |
| Version | Price | License | Apps included | End of support |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Office 2024 Pro Plus | 24,90€ | Lifetime, 1 PC | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access | October 9, 2029 |
| Office 2021 Pro Plus | 19,90€ | Lifetime, 1 PC | The same, plus Publisher | October 13, 2026 |
| Office 2019 Pro Plus | 12,90€ | Lifetime, 1 PC | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access | Ended on October 14, 2025 |
Office 2019 can still be activated after its end of support: keep it for a secondary or offline computer.
6. Office 2024 or Office 2021: which one to buy
Take Office 2024 if your PC has more than 4 GB of RAM, and Office 2021 or Office 2019 if you need Publisher.
Publisher has been removed from Office 2024: for .pub files, Office 2021 Pro Plus is the one you need. Office 2024 is supported until October 9, 2029, Office 2021 only until October 13, 2026: three more years of fixes, as detailed in our Office 2021 vs Office 2024 comparison.
For reference, Microsoft sells Office Home 2024 at its own list price: a different product, with five apps and no Access (page accessed September 14, 2026).
Microsoft Office 2024 Pro Plus
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Access, the six apps of Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024. Windows 10 and Windows 11, lifetime license for 1 PC, key by email, usually within minutes.
Microsoft Office 2021 Pro Plus
The same apps, plus Publisher. Runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Lifetime license for 1 PC.
For a spare computer or a 32-bit PC, Office 2019 Professional Plus (12,90€) remains the most affordable option in our range.
7. Office 2024 on Mac: which versions of macOS
On Mac, Office 2024 is supported on the three most recent versions of macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel processors alike. The rule is a rolling one: with each major macOS release, the oldest of the three drops off the list.
If your Mac is stuck on an older macOS, an earlier edition will be more reliable, such as Office 2021 Home and Student for Mac rather than the 2024 edition. Access and Publisher don’t exist on macOS. Details in our Office for Mac buying guide.
8. How it works: your key by email
Four steps, and no subscription.
- You order online and pay by card or another secure payment method. The invoice is issued automatically.
- You receive your key by email, with the official Microsoft download link and the instructions. Most orders arrive automatically a few minutes after payment, and every order within 48 business hours at most.
- You install, then activate by entering the key, which takes ten to twenty minutes. The Office 2024 activation guide walks you through every screen.
- If anything goes wrong, our support team answers by email 7 days a week, within 2 hours on average, and guides you step by step, screen by screen. A defective key is replaced, for life.
Frequently asked questions
Does Office 2024 still work on Windows 10 after October 14, 2025?
Yes. Windows 10 reached its end of support on October 14, 2025, but Office 2024 still installs, activates and runs on it: it’s the Windows updates that stop, not those of Office 2024, which is supported until October 2029.
Does Office 2024 install on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1?
No. Office 2024 isn’t supported on any version earlier than Windows 10, and neither are Office 2021 and Office 2019: you first need to upgrade the operating system, for example with Windows 10 Pro (9,90€).
How much RAM do you need to run Office 2024?
Microsoft asks for 4 GB of RAM, a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor and 4 GB of free disk space. Below 4 GB, no version of Office 2024 meets the official minimum: go for Office 2019 (12,90€).
Should I choose Office 2024 in 32-bit or 64-bit?
Choose 64-bit from 4 GB of memory upwards: that is Microsoft’s recommendation, and it’s mandatory on a 4K screen. Keep 32-bit for Windows installed in 32-bit and for old add-ins or VBA macros: the same key activates either one.
Which version of Office should I get for a ten-year-old PC?
On Windows 10 with 4 GB of RAM, Office 2021 Pro Plus (19,90€) is a sensible compromise: it includes Publisher and stays light, although its support ends on October 13, 2026. For 32-bit Windows, Office 2019 (12,90€) is enough; for the longest support, Office 2024 (24,90€) is covered until October 2029.
